Ghent University (UGent) is one of the most important institutions of higher education and research in the Low Countries. The SUPURBFOOD project activities will be performed by the UGent section “Farm management, agricultural policy and rural environmental economics
” led by Prof. dr. ir. G. Van Huylenbroeck, which is a part of the department of Agricultural Economics
at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering.
Research topics of the entity include the influence of the CAP, valuation of ecosystem services, social cost benefit analysis of landscape projects, the farm economic and structural impacts of environmental and zoning policies, the possibilities for diversification in the agrarian sector, the emergence of certification schemes, rural policy and rural development. The research group has experience with both theoretical and empirical research and with a broad spectrum of research techniques.
